Killing buckwheat on time

Buckwheat is a great summer weed suppressor, especially for small harvested or unplanted areas that would otherwise get weedy. They should be killed on time to avoid seed production. Buckwheat should not be part of the seed bank.

The target killing date is 35 days after planting. If killing by mowing, earlier killing is not effective because the lowest nodes resprout and make seed quickly. Later killing is not effective because even detached inflorescences will produce viable seed in short order.
